Ktima Kir-Yianni with two wineries in Western Macedonia, wine culture of decades, cutting-edge technologies, very focused work in the vineyard, innovative marketing and valuable human resources is clearly a thoroughbred horse in the race for Greek wine. As we wanted to have an overview of their work we visited both wineries in Amyntaio and Naoussa (Giannakohori), with respective visits to nearby vineyards!

Our winter wine adventure continues! Our destination now is Amyntaio of Florina, one of the most important winemaking regions of Greece in terms of quality. We visited Domaine Karanika and met the owners Laurens Hartmann-Karanika and Anette van Kampen. Tasting their still wines, mostly based on the local Xinomavro as well as their top-class sparkling wines from Xinomavro and Assyrtiko was an unforgettable experience!

Visiting top wine producer La Tour Melas at Achinos Fthiotida at a beautiful estate with vineyards, olive and oak trees, an imposing stone tower and stunning views to the Maliakos Gulf. A top Greek wine with dozens of French references and people with an ability to reach the most difficult and demanding wine peaks. Our visit to La Tour Melas was a unique wine tourism experience!

We continue our wine exploration with Tsiakkas Winery in Pelendri, in beautiful Cyprus. This is one of the top wine producers of the Island; their winery is located at a mountain slope at 1.000 meters between pine trees and vineyards, while their higher vineyard stands at 1.500 meters above sea level. This makes Tsiakkas one of the highest wineries of Europe!

Our first wine trip this summer is at Vrinioti Winery at Gialtra, Northern Evia! Apart from the magnificent view to the Evian Gulf, the mesoclimate is also ideal for producing exceptional wines. We are tasting the much talked-of Assyrtiko Sur Lie, white and red ΙΑΜΑ in three vintages and more together with their maker Kostas Vriniotis. A local red grape of Northern Evia –Vradiano- is starring all the way!

Markou family with a history of 150 years in winemaking, is now run by two exceptional young professionals, Vassilis and Nikos Markou. We visited them in Paiania and tried their own extraordinary wine creations as well as those of the previous generation, with Markou Selections Fume 1998 being a highlight, a Savatiano triumphantly approaching two decades! Dry-farmed old vines, concentration, elegance and history... what else would a wine lover desire?
MUSES ESTATE | Boeotia - January 10th, 2015

A new wine exploration and visit to the much talked-of Muses Estate in Askri village in Boeotia, just half an hour from Athens! Follow us to the snowy valley of the nine Muses at the foot of Mount Helicon at an altitude of 500-550 meters, and to the family winery while we taste Savatiano, Mouhtaro and blends of Greek and international varieties!

The last episode of our trip to Rheingau follows us at the historical Weingut Robert Weil, running for almost one century and a half. We are tasting top-quality Rieslings with views to the historic mansion and the imposing Gräfenberg and Turmberg vineyards at the base of Scharfenstein Castle's tower, with the Gothic church of St. Valentine on the background!

We visit the historic Schloss Vollrads and taste single-vineyard ‘Schlossberg’ wine in various vintages as well as exceptional wines in all styles: Spätlese, Auslese, Beerenauslese and Ice Wines...!
